Smith goes to see his supervisor in the front office. "Boss," he says, "we're doing some heavy house-cleaning at home tomorrow, and my wife needs me to help with the attic and the garage, moving and hauling stuff."

supervisor指監(jiān)督者，管理者，鎮(zhèn)長，是一個總稱呼.director,superintendent, manager,都是負責檢查別人工作的人,他們都是supervisors.他們的銜頭是具體的名稱.

這里具體說說superintendent

1.在美國,負責(教育)的superintendent就叫教育學監(jiān),是一個學區(qū)的頭號人物.

2.警察局的superintendent,是一個警長.

3.大廈的superintendent就是大樓管理員,負責管道,垃圾電梯等事物,簡稱是super.

2.give you the day off

給一天的休假，off在這里是形容詞，休息，休假的意思，表示人的狀態(tài)。
