We Left Nothing 我們什么也沒留下

Mrs Brown was going out for a day. She locked the house and tacked a note for the milkman on the door:

When she got back that night, she found her door broken open and her house ran sacked. On the note she had left, she found the following message added:

go out有很多意思。

1.leave 離開

eg：I must go out shopping for half an hour．我得外出半小時買東西。

2.leave home for work離開家出去工作

eg：When she was eighteen，she went out as governess．她18歲離家當了家庭教師。

3．cease burning熄滅

eg：The match went out in the wind．火柴被風吹熄了。

4．end結束

eg：The year went out，with great achievements on all fronts．過去的一年以各條戰線上的輝煌成就而結束。

5.cease to be fashionable；cease to be followed，practiced or accepted 過時；不流行

eg：Few Englishmen wear frock coats now．They went out years ago．現在，英國人很少穿大禮服了。大禮服已經過時多年了。

6．be sent out被送出去了；被發出去

eg：All the invitations for the party have now gone out．所有宴會的請帖現在都已發出去了。

7．emigrate移居國外

eg：He went out to Australia about five years ago．大約5年前他就移居澳大利亞了

8．cease to function（usn．in a competition）；retire from power（比賽中）被淘汰；辭職

eg：That team went out in the third round．那個隊在第3輪中被淘汰。

9.（the tide，sea，water）flow back or away（潮、海水等）退潮；退去

The tide has gone out．潮水退了。

10. be on strike罷工

eg：The miners went out for more pay．礦工罷工要求增加工資。

11. die死

eg：The poor old man went out yesterday．那位可憐的老人昨天去世了。
