Roland's Last Battle
羅蘭的最后一戰
The Saracens came on, feeling sure of victory because of their great numbers.
撒拉遜人來了，因為人數眾多，所以他們確信自己會取得勝利。
But the soldiers led by Roland and Oliver fought so bravely that at last the enemy fled.
但是，由羅蘭和奧利弗領導的士兵英勇作戰，最后敵人都逃跑了。
Then Roland went over the battlefield, mourning for the many noble knights who had fallen in that fierce battle.
隨后羅蘭仔細查看了戰場，悼念在那場激烈戰斗中陣亡的許多貴族騎士。
Suddenly he heard the sound of trumpets again, and he knew that another army of the enemy was coming against them.
忽然，他又聽見號角聲，于是便知道是敵人的另一支軍隊要來攻擊他們。
"Oliver," he said, "surely Ganelon planned this attack. He wishes to have us killed.
他說：“奧利弗，肯定是加尼隆策劃了這次襲擊。他想殺了我們。
We cannot now hope for victory, but let us die bravely."
我們現在不能指望獲勝了，讓我們勇敢地犧牲吧。”
On came the Saracens, but when they attacked Roland's army, they were driven back again and again.
撒拉遜人來了，但當他們攻擊羅蘭的軍隊時，他們一次又一次地被趕回來。
At last so many Saracens had fallen that those who were left fled from the field.
后來許多撒拉遜人倒下了，剩下的人都從田里逃走了。
In these two battles many of the guard had been killed.
在這兩次戰斗中，許多守衛軍被殺。
Roland wept for the brave soldiers who would never again follow him to battle, and Oliver cried, "Oh, if King Charles had only been here!"
羅蘭為那些再也不會跟隨他去戰斗的勇士們哭泣，奧利弗喊道：“噢，真希望查理曼大帝能在這啊！”
Then for the third time trumpets rang out, and over the mountains came another great Saracen army.
然后，第三次號角響起，山上又來一支撒拉遜大軍。
Once again Roland's weary soldiers got ready for battle.
羅蘭疲憊的士兵們又一次做好了戰斗的準備。
Four times they drove back the enemy, but at last they could do no more.
他們四次擊退敵人，但最后還是無能為力。
One by one the knights had fallen until only a few were left.
騎士們一個接一個地倒下，只剩下幾個人。
Roland looked around at the brave men fighting against such great numbers, and he thought that perhaps even yet some of them could be saved.
羅蘭環顧四周，看著那些與如此眾多的敵人戰斗的勇士，他想也許他們中的一些人能得救。
So he raised his horn to his lips and blew with all his strength.
于是，他把號角舉到嘴邊，用盡全力吹響。
