Then David picked up five smooth stones out of the brook and put them into his bag.
大衛(wèi)從小溪里撿了五個光滑的石子，把它們裝進了袋子里。
With his sling in his hand, he went down to meet the giant.

"Who is this boy coming to fight me with a stick? roared the giant when he saw the brave boy walking toward him. "I shall soon kill him!"

You have sword and spear and shield, answered David.
你有長矛利劍，你有大盾防身，大衛(wèi)答道，
"But God will help me to win this battle and to save King Saul's people."
但上帝會幫我贏得這場戰(zhàn)爭，拯救掃羅王的人民。
As he said these words, he ran forward and shot one of the stones from his sling.
說著，他沖向前去，用他的彈弓射出了一顆石子。
So good was the young boy's aim that the stone struck the giant upon the forehead, and he fell dead.
男孩射得很準(zhǔn)，石子正中巨人的前額，他倒下來死了。
Then a great shout went up from King Saul's soldiers, and they rushed down into the valley.
掃羅王的士兵一陣歡呼，大喊著沖下了山谷。
But the enemy ran still faster, for they dared not stay when their giant was dead.
但是敵人跑得更快，因為他們的巨人死了以后，他們不敢再待下去了。
David is the greatest soldier in all the world! cried the people, joyfully.
大衛(wèi)是全世界最偉大的戰(zhàn)士！人們高興地大叫著。
In later years David became king, Although he fought many battles, it is not for these that he is remembered.
后來，大衛(wèi)成了國王，盡管他打過很多仗，但他并不是因為這些戰(zhàn)役而為人們所銘記的。
It is for the beautiful songs he wrote.
他寫了許多優(yōu)美的歌謠，而這才是他流芳百世的原因。
For hundreds of years people all over the world have read these songs and sung them.

In times of sorrow they bring cheer, in times of gladness they help people to tell their joy.

Through all the years, people have found pleasure in these songs, which we call the "Songs of David."
