When alone, the good old couple spent some time in conversation about the events of the evening, and then lay down on the floor and fell fast asleep.

They therefore set out, but asked Philemon and Baucis to walk with them a short distance, and show them the road which they were to take.

So they all four started from the cottage, chatting together like old friends.

"Ah, me!" exclaimed Philemon, when they had walked a little way from the door,

"if our neighbors only knew what a blessed thing it is to show hospitality to strangers,

they would tie up all their dogs and never allow their children to fling another stone."
那樣他們就會把他們的狗拴起來，絕不會允許他們的孩子向陌生人扔石頭。
"It is a sin and shame for them to behave so — that it is!" cried good old Baucis.
他們現在的做法是一種罪過和恥辱！善良的老柏西斯喊道。
"And I mean to tell some of them what naughty people they are!"
我想告訴他們中的一些人，他們是多么的沒有規矩！
