When the mailman reached a post-box by the side of a country road, a little girl was playing in the yard.
郵遞員來到鄉(xiāng)村路邊的一個郵箱，一個小姑娘正在院子里玩耍。
"Did you bring my letter?" she asked eagerly, as she came running to the automobile.
有我的信嗎？她跑到車子旁急切地問道。
"I think so, Mary Ellen,"answered the mailman, smiling.

First he gave the little girl a letter for her father.
首先郵遞員給了小姑娘一封給她父親的信。
Next he gave her a paper for her mother.
接著他給了她一個給她母親的文件。
Last of all, he gave her an envelope with her name on it.
最后，給了她一個上面寫著她的名字的信封。
"Oh, thank you," said Mary Ellen, as she hugged her envelope and ran into the house.
哦，謝謝你，瑪麗·艾倫邊說邊抱著自己的信封跑進了屋里。
"You are welcome," said the mailman.
不客氣，郵遞員說道。
The valentine felt small fingers opening the envelope, and it peeked out a bit.
情人節(jié)賀卡感到有小手指正在拆開信封，它往外偷看了一眼。
By a calendar on the wall it saw that it was Valentine's Day.
根據(jù)墻上的日歷來看，今天是情人節(jié)。
"Oh oh," thought the valentine, "how glad I am to be on time!"

A moment later it was in a bright and pleasant room,
不一會兒情人節(jié)賀卡就進了一間敞亮宜人的屋子，
where there were flowers by the windows, and a gray pussy by the fireplace.
屋子的窗邊有許多花朵，在壁爐旁還有一只灰貓。
Suddenly it heard a soft and happy voice say," Oh, how lovely!"
突然賀卡聽到一個柔和快樂的聲音說道，啊，真可愛！
And then the valentine looked right up into Mary Ellen's shining eyes.
情人節(jié)賀卡往上一看，看到了瑪麗·艾倫閃閃發(fā)亮的眼睛。
It had reached the end of its journey.
此時它也到達了旅途的終點。
