At first the brown-banded boy took the lead but the yellow-banded boy was not far behind. When they reached the turn at the other end of the block, the Sunnysider began to gain on the other skater. Faster and faster he went, while all the boys and girls shouted.
剛開始帶棕色袖標的男孩領先，但帶黃色袖標的男孩緊追其后。當他們到達街區另一頭的拐彎處時，陽光隊的隊員超過了對手隊員。他越滑越快，此時男孩和女孩們都大聲呼喊著。
A moment later he darted across the finish line, ten feet ahead of the boy with the brown-band.

At the end of four rounds, each team had won two victories. The fifth round would decide the race, and Francis Frame was the fifth skater for the Sunnysiders.
前四回合結束時，每隊都贏得了兩個回合的比賽，第五回合將決定勝負！弗朗西斯·福雷德是陽光隊的最后一名隊員。
"Don't forget that I'm counting on you. I know you can do it." Andy said as Francis took his place at the starting-point.

The Shadysider who was to skate against Francis was about the same size as the new boy, though his legs were a little longer.
跟弗朗西斯對抗的陰涼隊隊員跟他的個頭相當，但是比他腿長。
For the fifth time that morning came the starting-signal.
當天上午第五回合比賽開始的信號響了。
"On your mark!" cried Mr. Thompson. "Get ready!" The whistle blew!
“各就各位。”湯音森先生喊道，“預備！”口哨吹響！
At first Francis dashed ahead and held the lead. How all the Sunnysiders did cheer and shout! But sudently they gave a groan. Somehow, Francis had slipped, and now lay flat on the sidewalk.
一開始，弗朗西斯沖在前面，保持領先。所有的陽光隊隊員都歡呼雀躍起來！但他們突然嘆息了一聲。不知怎么地，弗朗西斯滑倒了，平躺在了人行道上。
The Shadysider darted quickly ahead, and by the time Francis was on his feet again, was far in the lead.
陰涼隊隊員很快沖到了前面，當弗朗西斯又站起來時，他已經遙遙領先了。
"Got it, old man!" shouted Andy. "You can beat him yet!"
“知道嗎，家伙！”安迪喊道，“你還能擊敗他！”
Then the Sunnysiders gave a cheer. Francis was slowly creeping on the boy with the brown band. At last the end of the block was reached. Both skaters had made the turn and were racing back toward their cheering teams. The Shadysider was still ahead, but Francis kept gaining on him until the two were side by side.
隨后，陽光隊的隊員歡呼起來。弗朗西斯慢慢追向那個帶棕色袖標的男孩。最后，他們都到了街區盡頭。兩個滑冰隊員都轉身，向他們歡呼的隊伍滑去。陰涼隊隊員仍然領先，但是弗朗西斯漸漸逼近，直到兩人并排。
Now they were near the end of the race. Every boy in the crowd was shouting, but Andy's excited voice was heard above all the others.
現在，他們接近比賽終點了。人群中的每個男孩都在吶喊，安迪興奮的聲音比其他人的呼聲都高。
"You can do it! You can do it! You can do it!"
“你能行，你能行！”
Francis put all his strength into the last few yards and crossed the goal just ahead of the boy with the brown band.

The Sunnysiders had won. Francis Frame would no longer be the "new boy" in the block. And Andy was the happiest boy in all the crowd.
陽光隊獲勝了。弗朗西斯·福雷德在這個街區不再是新來的男孩，安迪是人群中最高興的一個。
"My legs may be too short for me to be a fast skater," he said to himself, "but just the same, my skates won the race."
“我的腿可能太短，以至于不能成為一名好的速滑隊員。”他對自己說，“但我的旱冰鞋贏得了比賽，這和我贏了比賽一樣。”
