一.steal:v.偷, 竊取 n.偷竊, 便宜貨, (欺詐的)政治交易
【詞義辨析】
rob, steal, plunder, deprive
這些動詞均含“偷，搶，奪”之意。
rob最常用詞，指用暴力恐嚇或哄騙等非法手段搶奪財物。
steal普通用詞，指暗中行竊。
plunder指大規模或大范圍地掠奪。
deprive多指奪去或扣留別人擁有或可能擁有的有價值或必需的東西，也可用于指抽象的事物。
【例句用法】
Despite fine acting by several well-known stars it was a young newcomer who stole the show.
盡管幾位名角演出都很出色，卻未曾想竟讓一名新秀搶盡風頭。
He stole a glance at the pretty girl across the table.
他偷偷地看了一眼桌子對面那個漂亮的女孩。
二.provide:v.供給, 提供, 準備, 規定, 撫養
【語法用法】
provide作及物動詞時，指“規定”，后可接that從句。值得注意的是從句中要用shall/should，不用will/would，偶爾可用虛擬現在式。
The contract provides that only the best materials shall be used.
The contract provides that only the best materials be used.
合同規定說只允許用最好的材料。
provided可作連接詞，原屬于provide的過去分詞， provided ...或provided that ...指“規定或以……作條件”。當用于正式英語中時，provided .../provided that ...可等同于“if...”。
I will go provided (that) you will go with me.
I will go if you will go with me.
兩句意思一樣，但注意兩者不能隨便替換。
What will happen if they see us?
句中的if不可以替換成provided。不過通常來說，用provided的場合，用if都是可以的。

錯句: He has a family of four to provide to.
訂正: He has a family of four to provide for.
翻譯: 一家四口需要他來贍養。
分析: 表示“贍養”時，用provide for，而不是provide to。
【詞義辨析】
supply, provide
兩者均可表示“供應；供給”，指對于缺乏或不足的事物進行補充或供給。
supply常與to／for或with連用，其結構是：supply sth．to／for sb．或supply sb．with sth.
They supply food to／for the survivors．＝They supply the survivors with food.
他們供應食物給幸存者。
provide常與for或with連用，其結構是：provide sth．for sb．或provide sb．with sth.
He provides food and clothes for his family．＝He provides his family with food and clothes.
他給家人提供衣食。

The government has to provide against a possible oil shortage in the coming months.
政府須為未來幾個月中可能出現的油荒作好準備。
The possibility of the book being translated is provided for in your contract.

三.access:n.入口, 通道 n.接近(的機會), 使用之權 vt.進入, (電腦)存取
【語法用法】
access與accession的區別：access指“進入，接近的機會”，而accession是接近的意思。
His access to fortune was barred.
他接近財富的機會受到了阻礙。
His accession to fortune had not yet taken place.
他還未接近財富。
accession 經常還有“更進一步”或“增加的”意思，而access沒有。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句: The only access for that building is along that muddy track.
訂正: The only access to that building is along that muddy track.
翻譯: 到達那個建筑物的唯一途徑是沿著那條泥濘的小路前行。
分析: 表示“到達某處的途徑”一般是access to sth。
