被迫參加學(xué)校戲劇社的Landon慢慢了解了Jamie, 并開始偷偷喜歡她。可是，當(dāng)Jamie前來邀請他一起練臺詞的時候，他卻掛不住面子，附和別人對Jamie的嘲諷。這讓Jamie再一次對Landon失去信心。舞臺上，身著禮服的Jamie光芒四射，讓Landon神迷，甚至忘記了臺詞。這樣一個醉心于公益，喜歡讀書，不把別的女孩子看重的東西放在心上的內(nèi)秀女孩怎能不讓Landon動心呢。于是，就有了下面的一段。

Jamie: People can see. That would ruin your reputation? 別人會看見的。那會毀壞你的名聲？

Landon: What's that? 什么書？

Jamie: I'm reading books on Rothman's list of contemporary American authors. 我在看當(dāng)代美國作家Rothman的系列叢書。

Landon: And how many books are there? 一共多少本？

Jamie: A hundred. But then there's his British list and his European list. 一百。還有英國系列和歐洲系列。

Landon: So is this on your list, to read all these books? Jamie, I'm trying here, okay? Maybe..Maybe I miss spending time with you. Maybe you inspire me. 你打算把這些書都讀完嗎？Jamie，我已經(jīng)在努力了，好嗎？也許，也許我懷念和你在一起的時間。也許，你鼓舞著我。

Jamie: Sounds like bull. 聽起來都是廢話。

Landon: Which part? 那些是廢話？

Jamie: All of it. 所有的。

Landon: It's not. 不是這樣的。

Jamie: Prove it. 那就證明給我看。

Landon: Jamie!

Jamie: You don’t know the first thing about being someone’s friend. 你根本不知道怎么做別人的朋友。

Landon: I don't want just be your friend. 我并不僅僅想做你的朋友。

Jamie: You don't know what you want. 你不知道你想要什么。

Landon: And neither do you. Maybe, maybe you're scared of someone might actually want to be with you. 你也不知道。也許，也許你害怕真的有人愿意和你在一起。

Jamie: And why would that scare me? 為什么我會害怕這個？

Landon: Because then you wouldn't hide behind your books...or your frisking telescope, or your faith. No. You know the real reason why you're scared? It's because you want to be with me too.因為不是這樣的話你不會藏到你的書后面，或者你的望遠(yuǎn)鏡，你的信仰。不對，你知道你害怕的真正原因是什么嗎？因為你也想和我在一起。

從I don’t want just be your friend可以看出Landon對Jamie的心意。不過，Jamie對Landon所說的一切，評價為 “sounds like bull”. Bull在這里自然不是公牛，而是取bull shit的含義，表示“廢話”。英語當(dāng)中，表示廢話的常用詞匯有: bull, bull shit, crap, 等等。

Jamie與Landon一直以來結(jié)交的朋友們完全不同。而Jamie所做的一切，也讓原本就處于叛逆迷惘期的Landon開始慢慢明白生活究竟應(yīng)該以怎樣的態(tài)度面對。不知不覺中，Landon在發(fā)生著改變。
