'what' and 'if'’are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together, side by side, and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life. "What if? I don't know how your story ended, but if what you felt then was true love then it's never too late. If it was true then, why wouldn't it be true now? You need only the courage to follow your heart. I don't know what a love like Juliet's feels like, a love to leave loved ones for, a love to cross oceans for, but I'd like to believe, if I ever were to feel it, that I'd have the courage to seize it. And, Claire, if you didn't, I hope one day that you will.

What 和 if 是兩個什么樣的詞呢？as non-threatening as words can be，non-threatening, 不嚇人的，不具威脅力的。這里可以理解為不會讓人思緒波瀾起伏的。As…as can be, 表示“最……”。也就是這兩個詞是再平常不過的兩個詞。但是，將他們放到一起，卻能產生不可思議的能量，這個能量能夠haunt you for the rest of your life. Haunt, 指“像鬼魂一樣出沒，徘徊”。如果我們說哪座房子鬧鬼了，就可以說It is haunted.
