二、Listen and Learn 內容透析
1.I bet you're wondering what, gossip girl is doing up so early. 我打賭你一定在詫異, 緋聞女友為啥這么早起床。Bet: 打賭。I bet: 我打賭… I bet Blair is gorgeous. 我打賭Blair非常漂亮。You bet: 一點兒也沒錯，我可以打包票。We 're sure to win. 我們贏定了。You bet. 當然。其他“肯定”的說法：It’s in the bag. / It’s a done deal. / It's a dead cert!
2.Why waste precious time dreaming, when waking life is so much better? 既然醒時的生活如此美好為何要把寶貴的時間浪費到做夢上去呢？precious: 寶貴的，珍貴的。它的近義詞是valuable。這兩個詞語有些細微的區別: precious指的是任何無法用錢衡量的珍貴的東西，尤其適用于失掉后無法補償的東西，還可用于人的感情方面。比如：True friends are very precious. 真正的朋友是非常珍貴的。valuable指的是任何值錢的或可以帶來巨額利潤的、以及非常有用的或受人珍視的東西。比如：He wants to look for the extremely valuable item, gold.他想尋找那極有價值的東西黃金。
3. Is there really, anything better than a lazy Sunday? 還有什么比慵懶的周日, 更令人眷戀的呢?這個句型我們可以套用到日常的口語中：Is there anything+比較級。Is there anything more important than health? 還有什么比健康更重要呢？
4.Reading the paper in bed, sipping coffee, scrambling an egg or two.躺在床上讀讀報紙，喝口咖啡，再來一兩個炒蛋。sip: 啜飲，抿一口。sip coffee / take a sip of coffee：喝口咖啡。scramble: 爬行，攀登。scrambling an egg or two里的scramble是“使…混雜”的意思。scrambling an egg or two煎一兩個雞蛋。
5.Yeah, right. We upper, east siders don't do lazy. 對了，曼哈頓的名流們從來都不懶。Are you lazy？I’m not a lazy bone. lazy bone: 懶鬼。英語中有很多形容詞后面會帶上bone骨頭，我們不妨再來舉幾個例子: You haven't got a romantic bone in your body. 你根本就不浪漫。
6.Breakfast is brunch. 早餐就是我們的早午餐。Brunch是由早餐breakfast和午餐lunch合成的，不過早午餐并不是每天都有，通常只有在周日才吃，就餐的時間也比平時來得長，通常是早上10點到下午3點。
7.It comes with champagne, a dress code and a hundred of, our closest friends and enemies. 上東區名流們的早午餐有香檳作伴，正裝出席，還有許多密友，和死對頭會面。code: 法規，準則。dress code: 著裝要求。這里是說這些上東區的名流們正裝出席。code還有“密碼”的意思，比如：I can break the code of this box. 我能破譯這個箱子的密碼。Enemy和foe都是 “敵人”的意思。 it comes with champagne, a dress code and a hundred of, our closest friends...and enemies.
8.Chuck's dad, Bart Bass, is hosting, the annual brunch for his foundation. Chuck的爸爸Bart Bass, 為他的基金會舉辦每年一度的早午餐會。annual: 一年一度的。foundation: 基金會。
