The following year, after residing in relative poverty, Butch won a position as a research assistant for the best law professor at the college.

Butch paused when he was given this assignment feeling a little bit resistant to the idea; he had once been addicted to heroin himself.

He wondered if the professor suspected this and therefore rendered to him this particular research topic.

Well, it didn't matter, Butch decided, he was removed from that life now and he would respond to this assignment as best as he could.

Butch spent the next following weeks constantly in the library. He didn't even have to reserve a table anymore; he was there so often.

Butch was ecstatic and that evening he invited all the people who had helped him to a dinner.
