180.人會（2）
After three hours of putting up with the most humiliating exercises, I soon knew.
忍受了三個小時飽受恥辱的儀式之后，我很快就明白了。
When my friend muttered that we should leave, it was as if I had just put my words into his mouth!
我朋友小聲抱怨說我們應該離開，這話就好像是我剛剛教他說的！
These fraternity guys must be queer in the head to make new initiates do such stupid things!
這些大學生聯誼會成員一定是瘋了，讓新會員做這樣愚蠢的事情！
As I queued up for the next event I determined that I would quiet down my inner fhistration and try to find an exit from the basement we were in!
排隊做下一件事時，我下定決心讓失望的內心平靜下來，想辦法從我們身處的地窖找到一個出口！
When I saw more than a couple of the elder boys standing in one comer,
看到好幾個大一點兒的男孩站在一個角落里，
I put two and two together and determined that that must be where the exit was!
我綜合起來判斷那個地方一定就是出口！
I nodded to my friend and he understood.
我朝朋友點了點頭，他心領神會。
When they said go we were both not as quick off the mark as we should have been.
他們說開始的時候，我們一反常態沒有充分利用最初的優勢。
Instead, as the other boys ran past the group of elder boys, we put to use the momentum we had gained and knocked them all down.
相反，當其他男孩從那群大男孩前面跑過去的時候，我們利用我們獲得的沖力把他們全打趴下了。
Then we raced through the door that they were guarding.
然后從他們把守的門口沖了出去。
We fell into a beautiful room with a banquet table loaded with quite a lot of food.
我們掉進了一個漂亮的房間，里面有一張宴會桌，上面有好多吃的東西。
"Congratulations!" all the boys yelled.
"恭喜！"所有男孩喊道。
"We were wondering who would get tired of those stupid games first and try to get out! You won!"
"我們正在琢磨誰會首先討厭這些愚蠢的游戲并想辦法逃出來！你們贏啦！"
It had been a trick, all of these stupid games. They just wanted to see who could put their mind to stop the silliness!
原來所有這些愚蠢的游戲不過是個騙局。他們就是想知道誰會想辦法阻止這種傻事兒！
It was quite the thing; we qualified for instant acceptance into the fraternity!
這種做法很時髦，我們有資格馬上加入大學生聯誼會。
And they put our names down on paper at the very top!
他們把我們的名字寫在了最前面！
"I'll put all your troubles to rights if I really hurt one of you!" I said.
"如果真的傷著你們中間的一位，我會給你們治好的！"我說。
"We know, we know! But it's the same test every year! Welcome to the frat house!"
"我們知道，我們知道！不過每年都會進行這樣的測試！歡迎來到大學生聯誼會大樓！"
