94.出師不利
Beth thought getting married would be great!
貝絲認為結婚可能是件好事！
And she thought she would get it made when she married Bill!
她認為和比爾結婚是不會有問題的！
He seemed so nice and their love seemed so genuine!
他看上去是那么好的一個人，他們的愛似乎是那么真誠！
But something happened after the wedding, and it seemed like their marriage got off on the wrong foot.
可是結婚不久就出事了，他們的婚姻一開始就不順利。
They got on each other's nerves right away! Even on the honeymoon!
他們很快就讓對方心煩了！就連蜜月也過得不開心！
Why couldn't he do it this way? She asked.
他怎么就不能這樣呢？她問。
Where did she get off with telling him what to do? He replied.
她從什么地方開始對他發號施令了？他答。
They got nowhere that way. And they soon got mixed up arguing about who had started what when!
結果倆人關系變得十分緊張起來。很快他們就被弄得糊里糊涂，為誰在什么時候因什么事情開始吵架爭個沒完！
It was awful and Bill just got madder and madder! Beth just cried!
那種日子過得真是糟透了，比爾一天比一天煩，而貝絲只知道哭。
She wanted to get lost! Or at least get involved with someone else who would be nicer to her!
她想不如墮落算了！或者至少與某個對她更好的男人扯上關系！
The marriage seemed doomed! They might as well get a divorce and get it over with!
他們的婚姻似乎注定要失敗！他們還不如離了拉倒！
But something kept Beth from getting on with calling a lawyer.
但是有一件事使貝絲沒有繼續給律師打電話。
When she did one time try to call a lawyer's office, she got off the phone before anyone even answered.
有一次她真的把電話打到了律師事務所，別人還沒接她就把電話放下了。
Maybe she had nagged him too much? She said to herself.
也許是她太愛嘮叨了？她對自己說。
She got off her chair and went over to Bill. She apologized. He did, too.
她從椅子上下來向比爾走去。她道了歉。他也說了對不起。
Then their marriage got moving! They suddenly had patience for each other!
后來他們的婚姻有了起色！他們突然對對方有了耐心！
And they looked past each other's shortcomings!
他們對對方的缺點睜一只眼閉一只眼了！
It was beautiful. More than either of them had ever expected!
那種感覺真好！比他倆想象的還好！
They agreed that if an argument ever got off the ground between them, they would both apologize as soon as they could!
他倆商定他們之間一旦開始發生爭執，他倆都要盡快向對方道歉！
Now they were off on the right foot!
現在他們生活得很開心！
