Staying in the chem.lab working on his chemical bond project for two days.
迪克在化學實驗室待了兩天做他的化學鍵方面的項目，
Dick forgot all about school elections.
所以完全忘了學校選舉的事情。
When he came back to earth, however, he was chilled to the bone to find out that he had been elected class president!
可是等到回到現(xiàn)實中來，他現(xiàn)在他已經(jīng)被選為班長，這真讓他感到寒氣刺骨！
How could that happen?
這種事怎么可能會發(fā)生呢？
He asked himself as he tried to chew over what it really meant.
他一邊仔細考慮當班長的真正含義一邊這樣問自己。
He would have been much better off as he class treasurer; he was so good with numbers.
如果是當班里的生活委員，他會自在些。他的數(shù)字概念還很不錯。
And that was because he was chicken hearted and afraid of people.
這也是因為他膽小怕事。
Working late in the chemistry lab would be child's play compared to having to work with people.
和與人打交道相比，在化學實驗室工作到深夜便是小菜一碟。
As Dick walked past the circulation desk of the library, the clerk saw him.
迪克從圖書館的借書處走過時，那里的接待員看見了他。
"Hey, Dick. Congradulations! Here have a chocolate bar!" Taking the bar Dick said thanks.
嗨，迪克，祝賀你！給你一塊巧克力。迪克結果巧克力餅說了聲謝謝。
"So are you ready for the class presentation you have to make tomorrow about what you're going to do as class president?"
你準備好明天的課堂發(fā)言談你當班長的打算了嗎？
"What presentation?" Dick asked.
什么發(fā)言？迪克問。
"The one after second period.
“第二節(jié)課后面的發(fā)言。
They've changed the whole class schedule so that you can speak to the student body!"
他們把課程計劃調了一下，這樣你就可以對全體學生講話了。”
As Dick stared he thought that he would rather chop down a million trees than in front of the whole school.
迪克瞪著眼，心想他寧愿砍倒一百萬棵樹也不愿意對著全校講話。
Do you need any help? I can chip in!
你需要幫助嗎? 我能幫忙的！
I was the president of my class too! the clerk said.
我也當過我們班的班長！接待員說。
"Absolutely!" Dick said.
絕對。迪克說。
Together the two of them spent the next few hours writing Dick's speech.
接著兩人一起花了幾個小時寫迪克的發(fā)言稿。
It was difficult, but Dick began to look forward to telling the class how he thought things could be better.
稿子很難寫，但迪克已經(jīng)開始盼望著告訴全班他的治班想法。
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to be class president!
也許當班長并不是一件壞事情。
