Seven Registration Hell
第七課 報不上名
"It just didn't add up！"
“就是沒法加起來！”
Bill thought to hiself as he flipped through his address book looking for the next person to call.
比爾一邊想，一邊翻著地址薄找下一個打電話的人。
"Why was there no one in the administration building?"
“行政樓里為什么一個人也沒有呢？”
He had to have this last advanced course to be able to graduate at the end of the semester and no one was answering the registration phone.
他必須上著最后一期高級課程才能在學期結束時順利畢業(yè)，現(xiàn)在卻沒有人接他的報名電話。
"Hello, registration."
“你好，報名處。”
Bill explained his problem once again.
比爾又解釋一次他打電話的原因。
To add insult to injury, however, the person yelled at him for not calling sooner!
可雪上加霜的是，對方因為他沒有早點兒打電話只跟他嚷嚷。
Bill had to admit to himself that they had a point.
比爾不得不承認他們說的在理。
He had been five minutes late at first!
因為是他首先晚了5分鐘！
And when he tried to adjust his schedule from A to B it hadn't worked either.
當他試著把計劃從A調(diào)整到B時，結果還是不行。
So he had maybe lost a half hour before he tried calling the registration help desk.
也許是他在打電話給報名求助出之前耽誤了半小時。
But that was just adhering to policy: First try alternatives before asking for help!"
可那是堅持原則的做法：求助之前首先是嘗試各種可能性！
Then he had wasted over an hour trying to reach them.
結果跟他們聯(lián)系就浪費了一個多小時。
His admiration for the university he was about to graduated from fell a couple notches.
他對這所他即將畢業(yè)的學校的贊賞降低了幾個等級。
How could they be treating a student like this?
他們怎么能這樣對待一個學生？
When he finally reached his advisor, she also began to add fuel to the flames before she added everything up to see that Bill was doing his best.
等到他終于找到他的指導老師，在把所有東西加起來，確認比爾盡了最大努力之前，她也是一同火上加油。
Then she added his name to a special list that would allow Bill to register as an add on.
然后把他名字加進了一個特殊名單，這樣比爾就可以做為附加名額報名了。
This was the exception that he had been looking for and Bill finally breathed a sigh of relief.
這是比爾一直希望得到的破例，因此他終于舒了一口氣。
He wanted to adorn his advisor with a wreath of roses, but the fower store ajacent to his home was closed.
他真想給他的指導老師帶上一個玫瑰花環(huán)，可是他家附近的花店已經(jīng)關門了。
He made sure to add in her name to his list of people to thank when he graduated.
他一定要把她的名字加進他的畢業(yè)致謝的名單。
She had literally saved his life!
她真是救了他一命。
