Nine No Air Conditioning
第九課 沒有空調
"Good! I arrived ahead of time!" said Dr. Williams to the usher as he escorted him to his aisle seat in the theater.
"太好了，我提前到了。”威廉博士對引座員說，他正護送他到戲院靠過道的座位。
"But, my God! It is warm in here.
“可是，天??！這里太熱了。
Isn't the theater supposed to be air-conditioned?
劇院里不應該有空調嗎？”
"Yes sir, it is." replied the usher, agreeing with the Doctor.
“是的，先生，這里應該有空調?！币鶈T回答道，他同意博士的觀點。
"But our air conditioner has been acting up lately.
“可我們的空調最近老出毛病。
I will have our staff check on it right awaly."
我馬上讓我們的工作人員檢查一下?！?/div>
"Please do! I really cannot tolerate a stuffy room!
“請一定要檢查！我真的受不了屋里太悶！
There needs to be some sort of air current! replied Dr. Williams.
屋里需要有點氣流！”威廉博士回答說。
The usher walked away and sighed to himself：
引座員走了，他暗自嘆了一口氣：
he was so tired of rich people and their airs and graces.
他受夠了那些有錢人，受夠了他們的裝腔作勢。
It was sometimes akin to walking on pins and needles.
有時真像如坐針氈。
But the Doctor was right and he aimed for the back room to talk to the technician.
可博士的話是對的，他把目標對準后臺，準備去跟那里的技術員談一下。
Arriving just ahead of him was another usher.
就在他到達之前，另外一名引座員也來了。
Both sighed when the technician replied that his alarm clock was broken and that was why he was late to turn on the air conditioner.
兩個人都嘆起氣來，因為技術員說他的鬧鐘壞了，所以沒有把空調打開。
The two ushers agreed to give the technician a reminder before the next performance.
兩名引座員一致同意下次演出之前給技術員提個醒。
Back in his seat, Dr.Williams was conversing with a person next to him.
回到座位之后，威廉博士和旁邊的人攀談起來。
"I think Matrioiani's perfermance was much better than Antonni's.
“我認為馬特繆雅尼的演出比安東尼尼好多啦。
But we can agree to differ on this issue.
不過在這個問題上我們可以各自保留不同意見。
Let's just aim at enjoying the evening.
讓我們以享受這個晚上為目的吧！
It is for a good cause, you know.
你知道的，這次演出是為了一個高尚的目標。
Proceeds will give aid to local artists."
演出收入將對當地藝術家提供幫助?！?/div>
"Excuse me." said the usher as he returned.
“不起，”引座員回來時說，
"The air conditioning has now been turned on."
“空調現在已經打開了。”
"Thank you, my good man," replied the Doctor.
“謝謝你，好小伙子，”博士回答道。
"Just in time for the opening act!"
“正好趕上第一場戲?！?/p>
