記得有一次幫老美同學帶他三歲大的小孩, 我試著講白雪公主的故事給她聽, 但是我發現十分困難, 因為許多專有名詞例如白雪公主 (snow white), 白馬王子 (prince charming), 七個小婑人 (seven dwarfs) 我都不會講. 后來我講到了, "Mirror, mirror, who is the most beautiful woman in the world." 這時她再也忍不住了, 糾正我說, 這句應該是, "Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" (魔鏡魔鏡誰是世界上最美麗的女人?) 真是應驗了人家說的, 還不如三歲娃兒.

后來她又告訴我, "My mom told me that prince charming would just come and sweep me off my feet." (我媽媽告訴我有一天白馬王子會出現, 并且令我傾倒. ) 這句話讓我有點啼笑皆非. 原來美國人的家庭教育也是教小女生去作夢, 怪不得長大后女生都這么難追? 或許我媽媽也該教我, "You would wake up one day finding your snow white is right next to you." (有一天你會一覺醒來發現你的白雪公主就在你身邊.) 如果每個媽媽都這么教他的小男生, 那么大概就不會有男生想要去追女生了吧?

6. I had a feeling that he is the Mr. Right I was looking for.
我有一種感覺他就是我要找的那個男人.

Mr. Right 是個很普遍且很受歡迎的用法, 指的就是那位可以托付終身的男人. 當然了, 有 Mr. Right 自然也有 Mr. Wrong (我記得順子的專輯里好像有一首歌就叫 Mr. Wrong). 故名思意 Mr. Wrong 指的就是無緣的男人或是指棄你而去的負心漢, 但是 Mr. Wrong 這樣子的用法似乎不太常見就是了.

此外我能想到的除了 Mr. Right 之外, 老美常用的還有 Mr. Perfect (完美先生). 例如老美常說, "He is perfect for you." (他非常適合你), 同樣的我們也可以這么說, "He is your Mr. Perfect."

7. You got to admit you are whipped.
你必須承認你很聽話.

Whip 這個字的原意是指拿鞭子抽打, 但當人家說 "I am whipped." 這句話時通常指的不是我被鞭子打了, 而是說「我很聽女(男)朋友的話」, 或是更傳神一點「被另一半管得死死的」. 例如有些女生會不準她男朋友跟以前的朋友在一起, 還有不管何時何地她都要男朋友陪他, 如果男生也乖乖地聽話了, 這時我們就說他, "He is whipped."

還有什么樣的人可以稱得上 whipped 呢? 以下是一些經驗法則 1. "If one calls his girlfriend right after getting out of a movie to tell her how it is, then he is whipped." (如果有人一出電影院就打電話給女友的話, 他就是很聽話) 2. "If one brags about what his girlfriend does to him all the time then he is whipped and too embarrassed to admit it." (如果有人老是提女朋友為他作了些什么, 他不但很聽話, 而且還不敢承認) 3. "If one swears to a girl then he wants to be whipped." (如果有人跟女生發誓的話, 他就是想變得聽話.) 4. "If one never hangs out with his friends because he is too tied up with his girlfriend then he is whipped." (如果有人因為跟女朋友活動排得太滿而沒時間跟朋友出去的話, 他就是很聽話. 5. "If one has a girlfriend smarter than him such that he can't play mind games so he is whipped." (如果女朋友比他聰明的話, 他就沒法跟她斗智所以只好聽話一點.

8. He is fine.
他很棒.

很多人可能會誤會 "He is fine." 指的是他「還過得去的意思」. 其實不是的. 當你說一個人, "He is fine." 時指的是這個人「很好、非常棒」的意思, 程度上相當于是, "He is awesome.". 所以這個 fine 跟平常我們打招呼時應付式地回答, "I am fine." 的那個 fine 程度上有很大的區別.

另外老美在口語上也會講, "He is fly." (這里可不是我打錯了, 老美真的是用 is + fly), 指的也是一個人非常棒的意思. 所以如果我們要形容一個令人心動的男生, 你有許多選擇, 你可以說, "He is fine." "He is awesome." 或是 "He is fly." 都可以.

9. He is one of the kind.
他是獨一無二的.
