Pope Francis, who was elevated to the papacy in 2013, implemented numerous reforms, such as enhancing the decision?making power of women in the church and diversifying church membership. Moreover, he paid broad attention to social issues, including climate change and the wealth gap.
方濟各本名豪爾赫·馬里奧·貝戈利奧（Jorge Mario Bergoglio），1936年出生于阿根廷布宜諾斯艾利斯，2013年當選羅馬教皇，是歷史上首位來自拉丁美洲的教皇。美國《華盛頓郵報》稱，方濟各任期內推行多項改革，如增強女性在教會中的決策權、教會成員“多元化”等。他還主張儉樸生活，摒棄高級神職人員的一些特權。此外，他還廣泛關注氣候變化、貧富差距等社會問題。
