"There really is one," confirmed Deep Thought.	“真的有一個(gè)。”深思肯定地回答說(shuō)。

"Yes."	“是的。”
Both of the men had been trained for this moment, their lives had been a preparation for it, they had been selected at birth as those who would witness the answer, but even so they found themselves gasping and squirming like excited children.	這兩個(gè)人所受的訓(xùn)練就是為了這一刻，他們畢生都在為這一時(shí)刻作準(zhǔn)備，他們從出生的那一天起就被選為見證這個(gè)答案的人。但即使是這樣，他們?nèi)匀话l(fā)覺自己喘著粗氣，局促不安地扭動(dòng)著身體，活像興奮的孩一般。
"And you're ready to give it to us?" urged Loonquawl.	“你準(zhǔn)備好把它交給我們了嗎？”盧恩克沃爾迫不及待地說(shuō)。
"I am."	“我準(zhǔn)備好了。”
"Now?"	“現(xiàn)在？”
"Now," said Deep Thought.	“現(xiàn)在。”深思說(shuō)。
They both licked their dry lips.	兩人同時(shí)舔了舔干燥的嘴唇。
"Though I don't think," added Deep Thought, "that you're going to like it."	“雖然我并不認(rèn)為，”深思補(bǔ)充說(shuō)，“你們會(huì)喜歡它。”
"Doesn't matter!" said Phouchg. "We must know it! Now!"	“沒有關(guān)系！”佛格說(shuō)，“我們必須知道答案！就是現(xiàn)在！”
"Now?" inquired Deep Thought.	“現(xiàn)在？”深思又問了一句。
"Yes! Now ..."	“是的！現(xiàn)在……”
"Alright," said the computer and settled into silence again. The two men fidgeted. The tension was unbearable.	“那好吧。”電腦說(shuō)，然后再次陷入了沉默。兩人變得坐立不安，緊張的氣氛簡(jiǎn)直讓人快要無(wú)法忍受了。
"You're really not going to like it," observed Deep Thought.	“你們真的不會(huì)喜歡它的。”深思再次指出。
"Tell us!"	“告訴我們！”
"Alright," said Deep Thought. "The Answer to the Great Question ..."	“那好吧，”深思說(shuō)，“那偉大問題的答案……”
"Yes ...!"	“是的！”
"Of Life, the Universe and Everything ..." said Deep Thought.	“關(guān)于生命、宇宙以及一切……”深思繼續(xù)說(shuō)。
"Yes ...!"	“是的！”
"Is ..." said Deep Thought, and paused.	“是……”深思說(shuō)，然后頓了一下。
"Yes ...!"	“是的！……”
"Is ..."	“是……”
"Yes ...!!!...?"	“是的！！！……？”
"Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.	“42。”深思說(shuō)，語(yǔ)調(diào)中帶著無(wú)限的威嚴(yán)和平靜。
