一.present:n.禮物, 現在 adj.出席的, 現在的, 當前的, 存在的 v.提出, 贈送, 呈現
【語法用法】
at present,for the present都屬于固定搭配格式,不能修改成at the present,in present等其他格式。前者指“現在”,后者指“暫時”;
at present同presently意思不同,但前者常用于現在時,表示“目前”,后者則常用于將來時,表示“一會兒”;
present和gift的比較:present指“禮物”,但gift可以不是“禮物”。Birthday/Christmas gift中,gift屬于禮物。在別人需要而將東西送給他時,如一本舊書或是把書捐給圖書館,都屬于gift,但不算送“禮”;
表示“把…送給(某人)”的幾種說法:{He presented a book to her.
He presented her with a book.
He made her a present of a book.
He made a present of a book to her.
值得注意的是,present 作動詞時,很少有雙賓語。}
present作形容詞時,常用于名詞后,指“出席的”。
There are other people present.
還有其他人出席。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句: Go to the post office and wait there; I will come at present.
訂正: Go to the post office and wait there; I will presently.
翻譯: 你到郵局那等會,我一會就來。
分析: 表示“一會兒”,用presently,at present常用現在時,表“現在”。
【詞義辨析】
1.modern, contemporary, current, recent, present, up-to-date
這些形容詞均有“現代的、當代的”之意。
modern指現代或近代,時期可長可短;也可指新穎、時髦的。
contemporary僅指當今這個時代,不涉及任何過去的時代,但可表示不同的人或物存在于同一時代。
current指目前存在和發生的。
recent表示新近的,最近的,時間的長短依據所修飾的人或物而定。
present是這些詞中語氣最強的一個。指現在正發生、起作用的。
up-to-date一般用于非正式場合,指很時新、能反映當前的最新發展。
2.offer, present, propose, volunteer
這些動詞均含“提出、提供”之意。
offer最普通用詞,多指主動提出或提供意見或東西等,但是否接受由對方自行決定。
present既可指提出意見、建議等,又可指拿出某物供人欣賞或贈送。
propose指直接而主動地提出問題或建議等,也指在討論或爭辨中提出具體意見或建議。
volunteer與offer同義,側重出于自愿,而不是奉命做某事。
【例句用法】
Falling interest rates present the firm with a new problem.
利息一下降給公司帶來了一個新的問題。
He would not be elected on present form.
鑒於他的現時表現,他不可能當選。
Has the builder presented his bill yet?
營造商把帳單送來了嗎?
People seem to have drunk far too much tonight, present company excepted of course.

二.accord:n.協議, 一致, 符合 v.與...一致, 給予, 調解
【語法用法】
in accord with同in accordance with有相同的意思,后者比較常用;
of his own accord,意為“自愿地,自發地”。on his own account 意為“為了自己的利益地,自己負責地”,易混用;
accord后可加雙賓語,
We shall accord him praise.
【詞義辨析】
1.agree, accord, coincide, conform, correspond
這些動詞均含“符合、一致”之意。
agree側重指經過比較后的所有主要部分均和諧一致,無沖突和矛盾。
accord著重指性格、精神、語氣或質量等方面的完全一致。
coincide多用于指觀點、判斷、愿望、利益或興趣的一致或相符。偶爾用于人,強調意見或觀點完全相同。
conform強調在形狀、性格以及主要特點等方面的相似或一致。
correspond指在進行比較時,兩個事物在某一個重要方面或細節上互相匹配、一致。
2.agreement, contract, treaty, convention, bargain, understanding, accord
這些名詞均含“協定,協議,契約,合同”之意。
agreement普通用詞,含義最確定,泛指個人、團體或國家之間取得一致而達成的任何協議、協定或合同、契約等,可以是口頭的,也可以是書面的。
contract側重指雙方或多方訂立的具有法律效力的正式的書面合同或契約。
treaty指國家之間經外交談判后依照國際法簽訂的正式條約。
convention比treaty更專門化,但不及treaty正式。也可指國家之間就有關事情簽訂的條約。
bargain通常指商業交往中的購銷合同。
understanding指不具約束力的非正式的協議。
accord多指國際間的非正式協議。
【例句用法】
The teachers praised him with one accord.
老師們異口同聲地稱贊他。
His words are in accord with his ideas.
他心口一致。
Your behavior does not accord with your principle.
你的行為與你的原則不符。
He joined the army of his own accord.
他自愿參軍。
He was accorded a warm welcome.
他受到熱烈的歡迎。
