Poor old Laud.Is there anything good to be said for Laud and the principles he stood for?

He's gone down as one of the most arrogant and destructive men in our history.

Far from being an elitist,Laud thought it was the Puritans who were the authoritarians.

What was so very wrong with that?

Well, what was wrong was that Laud was not presenting his programme as an option

He was presenting it as an order.
