At the foot of the hill you can hear the whinnying of Norman horses and what sounds like the chanting of psalms.

Then you catch sight of the Papal banner and take heart.Surely God is on your side.

The real beginning must be imagined as the cavalry raced up the hill,

and then hurling their javelins at the front line.
