E-Books re-write the publishing industry
Meet Taran Matharu, this 24-year-old Londoner is part of a new generation of young authors rewriting the traditional code of publishing by going on line to find their fan bases rather than in the library.
I always wanted to be an author ever since I was 9 years old. I wrote my first book when I was 9 actually. It was a dream of mine rather than something at all that can be a reality.
For Matharu, that dream did turn into reality in 2013, thanks to the Canadian startup Wattpad, one of the numerous story-showing sites for the catapult to names like Fifty Shades of Grey EL James.
We have millions of writers sharing their works on Wattpad every day. Success means different things for different people. For most writers, on Wattpad, most important thing is the connection to the fan base. They can connect in common and interact directly with the fans.
With 40 million month-users, growing to 100 million free uploads, Wattpad says that its mission is to democratize the written world, --- increasing literacy and changing the way today’s millennial conceive that contents.
This all comes down to 3 things: mobile, social and civilized contact. As you know, mobile is a device you carry with you all the time. For Wattpad users, they have all the entertainment they love carrying with them wherever they are.
And the numbers concerned that trend. According to PWC’s sales of Ebooks increase 25% in 2014 although the hardcopies shrank back by 2.5%.
The demon against Mula that is a misery.
Also like Matharu, today’s self-publishing tools have afforded the best of those votes. His success on line has helped cling to a 3-part deal with a major publishing house. The first novel in his fantasy adventure series The Summer hits the show in May. He says it’s been translated so far into 10 languages with film rights also on the cards.
For me, Wattpad was my launch platform. It was how I built following how I wrote the book because as I was writing it, people were reading it and telling me what they thought. So was encouraging. And there was a lot of books set a start to our self-publishing books. And then publisher thought they were selling well. And they worked with the self-publish authors to get the book down into the stores, to improve the writing, improve the book.
Everyone dreams of being a published author. I think that’s the end goal for a lot of people. Even people who has been very successful self-publishing is official. It means that people who know that is talking about, have said this is good.
Which means the writing isn’t quite on the wool for the printed page. But traditional publishing is entering a new chapter.
