Japan exports growth lower than expectations

Japanese exports fell for a second straight month in May due to weak external demand. The sector expanded 2.4 percent year on year, much slower than earlier 3.5 percent estimates.
The reading slid 2.7 percent on a monthly basis. Economists say a slowdown in Asia and North America is to blame, and they worry that weak exports may remain a drag on overall growth. Imports also dipped on the back of low energy prices.
Analysts say the data will be scrutinized by the Bank of Japan, which is expected to keep its current stimulus unchanged at a rate-decision meeting later this week.
