Rescuers struggle to reach Afghan landslide scene

Local police are doing what they can for the survivors of the massive landslide in northern Afghanistan. They're handing out water and food to villagers in Badakhshan. On Saturday morning rescue teams were still struggling to reach the remote region. Roads to the village are open but said to be unsuitable for heavy machinery. The United Nations is putting the number of dead at 350 at least. More than 2,000 others are missing. Afghan officials say there's little hope of finding anyone alive beneath the huge mountain of mud. The landslide hit as villagers were trying to recover their belongings and livestock after a smaller one a few hours earlier. The U.N. says NATO-led and Afghan forces are discussing what they might be able to contribute to the search and rescue effort.

Coast Guard seize a ton of marijuana in Miami

The Coast Guard offloaded more than a ton of seized marijuana in Miami Beach Friday. The seizure of 2,058 pounds of marijuana was made on April 23 when a Coast Guard crew detected a go-fast vessel and launched a boat to pursue it. When crew members boarded the boat, they discovered 48 bales of marijuana with an estimated wholesale value of nearly $2 million and a street value of nearly $6 million. Coast Guard Lieutenant Meaghan Gies says they took four suspected smugglers in custody. "The boarding team apprehended the four suspected smugglers that were on board the go-fast, took custody of the drugs, and transferred them to the dependable." The agency says it seized $22 million worth of marijuana and $1.8 billion worth of cocaine from throughout the Caribbean during 2013.

Dozens killed in building fire and clashes in Ukraine's Odessa

Scenes of panic and desperation in the Ukrainian city of Odessa. Crowds do their best to rescue lives from a trade union building set ablaze. It was here that dozens of people were killed in a fire. Others were shot dead when fighting broke out on the streets, between pro and anti-Russian groups. Reports say the number dead was at least 40. Police say a pro-Kiev march was ambushed. Petrol bombs, stones and explosive devices were thrown. Police soon lost control, and the building was later set on fire. It's the worst violence seen here since Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovich was ousted in February. And some residents say they fear some people may seek retribution.
