Chelsea Clinton announces she is pregnant

Chelsea Clinton made a big announcement in New York City Thursday. SOUNDBITE (English) CHELSEA CLINTON SAYING: "Mark and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year." (audience applause) She revealed the news at an event on empowering women. Her mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was seated next to her on stage.

Hillary said she was "really excited" to be a grandmother. It will be the first grandchild for her and former President Bill Clinton. Chelsea spent much of her youth in the White House, where her parents tried their best to shield her from the public eye. Now in her thirties, she works as Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation. Grandmother-to-be Hillary Clinton is currently considering a run for the White House in 2016.

Inquiry focuses on ferry crew

Investigators seize box-loads of documents from the offices of the firm which owns the South Korean ferry which capsized. Inquiry officials say the captain may not have been on the bridge at the time. They say the third officer may have been steering the ship but it's normal for junior officers to do that. By Friday at least 28 people on board were confirmed dead. Fears are growing that none of the 268 still missing would be found alive. South Korea's coastguard service said on Friday divers had been unable to get inside the hull of the vessel.

Nearly all those still unaccounted for are students and teachers from Danwon High School in Ansan, an industrial town near Seoul. As the search goes on their friends and relatives can only wait for news. On Friday it emerged the school's vice-principal appeared to have hanged himself with a belt from a tree outside the gym. The ferry went down in calm conditions and was following a frequently travelled route in familiar waters. It's South Korea's worst maritime accident in 21 years.

Peru's Ubinas volcano puts authorities on alert

The Ubinas volcano in southwestern Peru has authorities raising the alert level from yellow to orange, prompting evacuations and other necessary precautionary measures. Jose Machare of Peru's Institute of Geophyics says activity this week is ranging from small to a level three.

There is a very low probability, although it has not been discarded, of an unusual eruption that could be very big."

So far, the ash has affected over 10 villages and farmland in the region all within a 20 kilometer radius. After being dormant for several years, the Ubinas volcano has become increasingly active since September 2013.
