accident是一個常用詞，原義指料想不到的事，常指“事故”，比如 traffic/car accident 是“交通事故”，surgical accident 是“手術事故”。用作委婉語，accident在語中常指“不合時宜地想大便或拉肚子”。那么，love accident指什么呢？誤譯者很聰明，知道沒有“愛情事故”之說，腦筋一動，“巧譯”為“在愛情上受到了挫折。此譯的意思是“失戀”(be lovelorn 或 be crossed in love)，可惜譯錯了。一般詞典上確實査不到love accident，可是我們可以想象愛情中會出什么事。其實，love accident是一個婉轉的說法，是指避孕失敗無意中懷孕。在婉轉語詞典中可以查到，accident一詞除了指“無意受孕”外，還可以指“小產”，而且還可轉指“私生子”。
