Cameras capture the moment a bomb explodes as runners crossed the finish line at the Boston marathon on Monday. The dual blast left three people dead and at least 176 wounded. Among the victims were two Chinese students, one killed and one left gravely injured. The Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing said the government was "extremely concerned" after the attack.

The ministry's spokeswoman said Chinese authorities will spare no effort to assist in helping the victim's families. The wounded Chinese student is currently recovering at Boston Medical centre after two operations. China's deputy consul general told reporters that her life is no longer in danger, and held a note up that she had written which said: "I am fine, don't worry". Both Chinese students were watching the race when the explosions went off.

Israel marks 65 years of independence

Israel celebrated its 65th anniversary as an independent nation with a concert and other family festivities in Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other politicians marked the occasion, while the Israeli army held military displays and marches. For residents, the day is about spending time with family and celebrating the establishing of the Jewish state.

HILA, RESIDENT OF JERUSALEM, SAYING: "The 65 independent day for Israel it's a very happy day for us. We all come here to celebrate with barbecue and all the family. And I wish that the next independent day we are going to have peace with all the world." The country was founded in 1948, based on Jewish claims to biblical land and as a haven for survivors of European persecution that culminated in the Nazi Holocaust. But while Israelis were celebrating, in East Jerusalem the distribution of Palestinian flags resulted in minor scuffles with authorities. Israel's creation resulted in around 700,000 Palestinians fleeing or being driven from their homes.

Death toll expected to rise in Texas
美國(guó)德州化肥廠爆炸 60至70人遇難
Officials warn the death toll from an explosion and fire at a fertilizer plant in Texas is expected to rise. The plant, in a town called West, caught fire, then exploded around 8pm local time on Tuesday. Dozens of homes and other buildings were damaged in the blast, including a nursing home.

D.L WILSON, TEXAS DEPT. OF PUBLIC SAFETY SPOKESMAN SAYING: "Right now we have tremendous amount of injuries -- probably over a hundred injuries at this time. At this time we do have confirmed fatalities. The number is not current yet it could go up by the minute. We are in there searching the area right now." Emergency workers began treating victims on a nearby football field. The town's mayor says the focus now is on locating victims and is asking for the country's support.

TOMMY MUSKA, MAYOR OF WEST TEXAS, SAYING: "It's not the end of the world, it's just a big old cut that we got across our hearts. So, we're going to search for everybody. We're going to make sure everyone is accounted for. That's the most important thing right now." Officials still are not sure what caused the fire and subsequent explosion.
