I'll hit the sack (hay) right now and catch some Z's!
【Andrew's Note】
The British poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge once wrote, "Ah, sleep, it is a blessed thing, beloved from pole to pole." Everybody enjoys a good sleep. That's probably why we have so many expressions to describe sleep.
[1] In the hotel I was busy with my documents while Marston dozed offon the sofa with a book on his knees. I was afraid he might get cold so I woke him up,saying, "It is time you turned in, sir!"
[2] "Oh, I am too exhausted in the daytime, going through a million tonsof documents for the program. I'll hit the hay (sack) now! Good night and see you tomorrow."
[3] I joked, "Marston, millions of thanks for your help on the day time, or otherwise I will be stranded in the pile of documents. Please don't stay to catch some Z's. It is high time that you went to bed for a good sleep."
[4]Without much ado, I buried my head in the pile of documents because I had to present them to the departments concerned the next day. I had to burn the midnight oil to check up all the documents and make sure everything was in apple pie order. If anything was out of place, it might delay the endorsement of our project. In that case, I would be smitten(使心中苦惱; 責(zé)備)by deep remorse because my conscience would prick(刺痛;刺傷)me for my negligence.
