【語法用法】
in case of指“假如……發(fā)生，以防……”。
Take an umbrella with you in case of rain.
帶把傘吧，以防下雨。
in the case of指“關(guān)于……”，偶爾與in case of同義。
In the case of his father, we must make an exception.
關(guān)于他的父親，我需要做個(gè)例外。
in the case of，in ...case和in many cases等表達(dá)方式都要避免使用過多，有時(shí)還可省略。
In the case of Russian grammar, it has six cases.
可以直接說Russian grammar has six cases，省略in the case of。
in case后加that從句指“假如……”或“希望”，從句中不用將來時(shí)態(tài)。
In case he comes, let me know.
You had better be ready in case they arrive before you expect them.
in case可獨(dú)立使用，表示“萬一”。
They may not arrive before you expect them, but you had better be ready in case.
他們可能不會(huì)在你預(yù)期的時(shí)間前到，但為避免萬一，你最好做好準(zhǔn)備。
【錯(cuò)句舉例與錯(cuò)句分析】
錯(cuò)句: In case of physicial change, no new substance is formed.
訂正: In the case of physicial change, no new substance is formed.
翻譯: 至于物理變化，沒有產(chǎn)生新物質(zhì)。
分析: in case of“以防……”，而in the case of指“至于”。
【例句用法】
In your case, we are prepared to be lenient.
根據(jù)你的情況，我們擬予從寬處理
The goods have been cased up for transport.
貨物已裝箱待運(yùn)。
二.guess:v.推測, 猜中, 以為 n.猜測, 猜想
【詞義辨析】
assume, presume, suppose, guess, postulate
這些動(dòng)詞均含為“假設(shè)，猜想，推測”之意。
assume指有很少或完全無根據(jù)的武斷推測或不合邏輯的推理。
presume側(cè)重以過去經(jīng)驗(yàn)或根據(jù)現(xiàn)實(shí)的某些感覺把某事認(rèn)定為是事實(shí)。
suppose常用詞，意義較廣泛，指缺乏確切事實(shí)，根據(jù)一些現(xiàn)象進(jìn)行的推測，也可指為論證而提出合乎邏輯推理的某種假定，有時(shí)僅表示自己的意見。
guess常用詞，指毫無根據(jù)僅憑個(gè)人主觀臆斷或碰運(yùn)氣的猜測。
postulate指為證實(shí)一個(gè)理論的正確性而進(jìn)行的假設(shè)。
【例句用法】
I guess her age as 35.
我猜她有35歲。
Make a guess at the answer.
猜一下答案。
