William: Feifei, what's happening to your voice? 菲菲，你的嗓子怎么了？

Feifei: You tell me, I don't know what's happening! 你能告訴我么，我也不知道發(fā)生什么了！

William: You're just speaking gobbledegook. 你的話真是讓人費(fèi)解。

Feifei: I know I am but it's really difficult to... start speaking properly again. That's better! What word did you use just now? Gobblede... 我知道我在說什么，但是它非常難理解，我再說一次。這樣會(huì)好懂得多！你剛剛用什么詞了？

William: Gobbledegook. G.O.B.B.L.E.D.E.G.O.O.K. When someone speaks but they aren't really speaking a language and you can't understand what they're saying, we can say they're speaking gobbledegook. 當(dāng)有人說你聽不懂的話，但他說不真的是另一種語言時(shí)，你可以說這樣的話很難解。

Feifei: Gobbledegook 是一個(gè)名詞，表示完全不屬于任何一種語言、誰也聽不懂的說話。那么在什么樣的情況下我們可以用到這個(gè)詞呢 William?

William: Well, let's listen to two more examples now. 嗯，現(xiàn)在來聽下面兩個(gè)例子。

Examples

A: Have you phoned Claire yet? 你給克萊爾打電話了嗎？

B: I called her just now but something was wrong with the phone. All I could hear was gobbledegook. 我剛剛給她打電話了，但是電話有時(shí)間不是很暢通。我能聽到的話都很費(fèi)解。

C: You were talking in your sleep again last night. 你昨晚說夢(mèng)話了。

D: Really? What was I saying? 真的嗎？我說什么了？

C: I don't know. It was all just gobbledegook and I couldn't understand it. 我不知道。都是讓人難解的話，我不知道什么意思。

Feifei: 在我們剛聽到的第一個(gè)例子中，電話的干擾使說話人的講話完全讓對(duì)方聽不明白，都是 gobbledegook. 而在第二個(gè)例子中，是一個(gè)人在睡覺的時(shí)候說夢(mèng)話，他的妻子聽到的就是這種含含糊糊、讓人聽不清楚的 gobbledegook. But you know it's really odd that this microphone isn't working. William: My friend, that is gobbledegook! If you say lots of technical words that no one can understand, we can call that gobbledegook too. 我的朋友也是讓人難解的！如果你能說很多沒人能聽懂的技術(shù)性很強(qiáng)的專業(yè)用語，我們也可以用這個(gè)詞來形容。

Feifei: Ok, 看來，如果一個(gè)人說的是大部分人都聽不懂的那種技術(shù)性很強(qiáng)的專業(yè)用語，我們也可以管他說的這種話叫 gobbledegook.

William: We can also call it mumbo-jumbo. 我們也能用這個(gè)詞。

Feifei: Mumbo-jumbo. 今天咱們學(xué)的這兩個(gè)詞聽起來都?jí)蛴袀€(gè)性的！不過發(fā)音也挺難掌握得 gobbledegook and mumbo-jumbo.
