我的老師
Graham Lawrence, 29, science author who gives presentations on TV, went to Overton School, 1981-1989.

I haven't seen Mr Jenkins since I left school but I often think about him.
自從我離開學(xué)校后我就沒有見過詹金斯老師，但是我經(jīng)常想起他。
I wasn't very good at most school subjects.
我對(duì)學(xué)校里大多數(shù)的科目都不太擅長(zhǎng)。
I suppose I was a bit lazy and now I wish I'd done more work, especially in maths.
我想我當(dāng)時(shí)有點(diǎn)懶，現(xiàn)在我真希望當(dāng)時(shí)能多加努力，特別是在數(shù)學(xué)方面。
The only thing I can remember from school maths is that the angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees!

But when I was 15 and went into Mr Jenkins' class,

I really became interested in a subject for the first time.

Before Mr Jenkins, science had simply been a subject full of strange words to me.
在詹金斯老師教我之前，科學(xué)課對(duì)我而言只是一門充滿怪異詞匯的科目。
I had no idea what an atom was and I didn't really want to know either!
我不知道原子是什么，而且我也確實(shí)不想知道！
I found it all so boring and difficult.
我覺得所有的科學(xué)都那么枯燥和困難。
But Mr Jenkins made everything interesting.
但是詹金斯老師讓一切都變得有趣。
He used to explain things with lots of practical examples and simplified things that seemed difficult.
他常常用很多實(shí)例來解釋事件，把那些看起來很難的事情簡(jiǎn)單化。
One day, he took us outside and we built a rocket!
有一天，他把我們帶到戶外，我們做了一個(gè)火箭！
I remember that he let me pour some powder into the rocket
我記得他讓我把一些粉末灌進(jìn)火箭里，
and then another student lit a flame to set it off.
然后另一個(gè)學(xué)生點(diǎn)火將它發(fā)射。
It was great fun.
真的非常有趣。
I know that I wasn't a willing student and I shouldn't have been so difficult at school,
我知道我不是一個(gè)聽話的學(xué)生，我在學(xué)校也不應(yīng)該這么難管教，
but it was probably because I lacked confidence in myself.

Mr Jenkins made me feel that I could do things.

I was interested in astronomy and he asked me to give a presentation to the class.
我對(duì)天文感興趣，他讓我給全班同學(xué)作一次講述。
That was really the first time I ever tried to explain science to an audience and now it's my job!
那真的是我第一次試著向一群聽眾解釋科學(xué)，而現(xiàn)在它成了我的工作！
Often when I'm preparing a programme, I think about how Mr Jenkins would have done it.
當(dāng)我在準(zhǔn)備一個(gè)項(xiàng)目的時(shí)候，我經(jīng)常會(huì)想詹金斯老師會(huì)怎么做。
Sometimes I wish I could phone him and ask for his opinion!
有時(shí)候我真希望能打電話給他，請(qǐng)他給我意見。
