Israel and Hamas have reached agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza, raising hopes of an end to 15 months of war.

It will come into effect on Sunday.

The first 6-week phase will see the release of some Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from some areas.

If that phase is successful, there will be negotiations on a permanent end to the fighting.
