Chapter Two There is A Science of Getting Rich
第二章 人人都可以掌握的致富科學
THERE is a Science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic.
在這個世界上，有一門科學，名叫致富的科學，就像數學里的代數和算法。
There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches;
在獲得財富的過程中，有一些特定的法則;
once these laws are leamed and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty.
任何人，只要掌握并且遵守這些法則，那么，實現致富的美夢便指日可待。
The ownership of money and property comes as a result of doing things in a certain way;
其實，一個人的貧富狀況完全取決于他的做事方式。
those who do things in this Certain Way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich;
那些按照某一種特殊方式行為處世的人，無論他是有意識的，還是無意識的，最終會成為大富翁
while those who do not do things in this Certain Way, no matter how hard they work or how able they are, remain poor.
而其他那些沒有這樣做的人，無論他們如何有天賦，或如何才華橫溢，最終都無法登上財富的天梯，
It is a natural law that like causes always produce like effects;
與其他所有自然法則一樣，致富的科學同樣也受到因果效應的支配:
and, therefore, any man or woman who learns to do things in this certain way will infallibly get rich.
因此，只要掌握了這條法則，并且嚴格照章辦事，結果就只有你成為了大富翁！
That the above statement is true is shown by the following facts:

Getting rich is not a matter of environment, for, if it were, all the people in certa in neighborhoods would become wealthy;
一個人貧窮還是富裕，與他的生活環境毫無關系。否則，在某個特定的區域里，大家豈不是要么就全都是大富翁，要么就都是窮光蛋?
the people of one city would all be rich, while those of other towns would all be poor;
生活在城市里的人豈不就一定腰纏萬貫，而住在農村或郊區的人就一定家徒四璧了，
or the inhabitants of one state would roll in wealth, while those of an adjoining state would be in poverty.
或者某一個國家的人民因為利好環境而舉國富裕，鄰國卻因為環境條件落后而全國人民至今都還在溫飽線上掙扎。
But everywhere we see rich and poor living side by side, in the same environment, and often engaged in the same vocations.
在現實生活中，窮人和富人常常都是毗鄰而居。他們生活在同樣的環境里，有時候甚至還從事著相同的職業。
When two men are in the same locality, and in the same business, and one gets rich while the other remains poor,
兩個人，在他們居住的環境，從事的職業全都相同的情況下，他們的財富狀況卻常常有著天壤之別。
it shows that getting rich is not, primarily, a matter of environment.
這就表明，能否成為富翁基本上與環境并無太大干系。
Some environments may be more favorable than others, but when two men in the same business are in the same neighborhood,

and one gets rich while the other fails, it indicates that getting rich is the result of doing things in a Certain Way.
而有的人卻只能靠薪水勉強度日呢？說明發家致富取決于個人的做事方式。
And further, the ability to do things in this certain way is not due solely to the possession of talent,
而且，以這種方式做事的能力不僅僅是天賦，
for many people who have great talent remain poor, while others who have very little talent get rich.
因為許多很有天賦的人仍然貧窮，而那些沒什么天賦的人卻發財了。
Studying the people who have got rich, we find that they are an average lot in all respects,
研究那些有錢人，我們發現他們在各個方面都并無過人之處，
having no greater talents and abilities than other men.
也并具備某些常人所沒有的智慧或能力。
