Chapter 10. The Guardian of the Gate
第10章 來(lái)到奧芝國(guó)
It was some time before the Cowardly Lion awakened, for he had lain among the poppies a long while, breathing in their deadly fragrance;
膽小鬼本來(lái)在花叢中睡了許久，過(guò)了好久，它才從醉人的香氣中清醒過(guò)來(lái)；
but when he did open his eyes and roll off the truck he was very glad to find himself still alive.
但是獅子睜開(kāi)眼睛，從卡車(chē)上滾下，發(fā)現(xiàn)自己還活著，他感到很愉快。
"I ran as fast as I could," he said, sitting down and yawning,
“我竭盡全力快速奔跑，”它說(shuō)著，坐起來(lái)，打著呵欠，
"the flowers were too strong for me. How did you get me out?"
“花的香氣太濃了，還是把我醉倒了。你們?cè)趺纯赡馨盐揖瘸鰜?lái)呢？”
Then they told him of the field mice, and how they had generously saved him from death;
于是他們告訴他，是田鼠們，如何勇敢地把它從死亡里解救出來(lái)；
and the Cowardly Lion laughed, and said:
小膽?yīng){大笑著說(shuō)：
"I have always thought myself very big and terrible;
“我總以為，自己是龐然大物，看起來(lái)很恐怖，
yet such little things as flowers came near to killing me,
卻因細(xì)微的花兒，差點(diǎn)兒性命難保，
and such small animals as mice have saved my life. How strange it all is!
又被弱小的田鼠救了出來(lái)，這個(gè)世界真奇怪呀！
But, comrades, what shall we do now?"
伙伴們，現(xiàn)在我們要做什么？”
"We must journey on until we find the road of yellow brick again," said Dorothy,
多蘿茜說(shuō)：“我們必須走了，走回那黃磚路，”
"and then we can keep on to the Emerald City."
“這樣我們才能到那翡翠城去。”
So, the Lion being fully refreshed, and feeling quite himself again,
因此獅子聽(tīng)了，振作精神，重新站了起來(lái)，
they all started upon the journey, greatly enjoying the walk through the soft, fresh grass;
它和大家一起出發(fā)，在柔軟而新鮮的草地上，快活地走著；
and it was not long before they reached the road of yellow brick and turned again toward the Emerald City where the Great Oz dwelt.
不久，他們走上了黃磚路，在朝著偉大的奧芝所住的翡翠城走去。
The road was smooth and well paved, now, and the country about was beautiful,
現(xiàn)在，路不那么難走了，寬闊而平坦，周?chē)木吧哺用匀肆耍?/div>
so that the travelers rejoiced in leaving the forest far behind, and with it the many dangers they had met in its gloomy shades.
他們暗自慶幸，逃離了那個(gè)可怕的森林，他們?cè)陉幇堤幱龅搅撕芏辔ｋU(xiǎn)。
Once more they could see fences built beside the road;
他們又一次看到了路邊建起的柵欄；
but these were painted green, and when they came to a small house, in which a farmer evidently lived, that also was painted green.
他們發(fā)現(xiàn)，這里所有的房子都漆著綠色，當(dāng)他們來(lái)到一座小房子的時(shí)候，一個(gè)農(nóng)民住在里面，他的房屋也被漆成綠色。
They passed by several of these houses during the afternoon, and sometimes people came to the doors and looked at them as if they would like to ask questions;
下午他們經(jīng)過(guò)了幾所房子，有時(shí)人們來(lái)到門(mén)口看著他們，好像他們想問(wèn)問(wèn)題一樣。
but no one came near them nor spoke to them because of the great Lion, of which they were very much afraid.
但沒(méi)有一個(gè)人走近他們，也沒(méi)有和他們說(shuō)話，因?yàn)樗麄兎浅：ε戮薮蟮莫{子。
The people were all dressed in clothing of a lovely emerald-green color and wore peaked hats like those of the Munchkins.
人們都穿著可愛(ài)的翠綠色的衣服和像芒奇金人戴著的尖頂帽子。
