Filch was the Hogwarts caretaker, a bad-tempered, failed wizard who waged a constant war against the students and, indeed, Peeves.

However, Peeves paid no attention to Professor Lupin's words, except to blow a loud wet raspberry.

Professor Lupin gave a small sigh and took out his wand.

'This is a useful little spell,' he told the class over his shoulder. 'Please watch closely.'

He raised the wand to shoulder height, said 'Waddiwasi!' and pointed it at Peeves.

With the force of a bullet, the wad of chewing gum shot out of the keyhole and straight down Peeves's left nostril;
那小塊口香糖就像子彈一樣從鑰匙孔里射出來了，而且直接射進(jìn)了皮皮鬼左邊的鼻孔里；
he whirled right way up and zoomed away, cursing.
皮皮鬼立即急急轉(zhuǎn)開去了，而且陡直上升，一路詛咒著。
'Cool, sir!' said Dean Thomas in amazement.
“真棒，先生！”迪安托馬斯驚奇地說。
'Thank you, Dean,' said Professor Lupin, putting his wand away again. 'Shall we proceed?'
“謝謝你，迪安。”盧平教授說，又收起了魔杖。“我們繼續(xù)走吧？”
They set off again, the class looking at shabby Professor Lupin with increased respect.
他們又走了下去，全班看著這位衣著檻褸的教授，增加了敬意。
He led them down a second corridor and stopped, right outside the staff-room door.
他帶領(lǐng)他們走進(jìn)第二條走廊，停住了，正停在教員休息室外邊。
'Inside, please,' said Professor Lupin, opening it and standing back.
“請(qǐng)進(jìn)去。”盧平教授說，打開門，向后退了一步。
The staff room, a long, panelled room full of old, mismatched chairs, was empty except for one teacher.
教員休息室是一間長長的、放滿了不成套的舊椅子的地方，只有一位教師在那里。
Professor Snape was sitting in a low armchair, and he looked around as the class filed in.
斯內(nèi)普教授坐在一張低矮的扶手椅上，這個(gè)班的學(xué)生進(jìn)來時(shí)，他四面張望著。
His eyes were glittering and there was a nasty sneer playing around his mouth.
