“好孩子愛讀書愛干活，可你……” “正好相反，我一年到頭懶惰流浪。”
"Good boys always tell the truth." -"And I always tell lies."
“好孩子向來說真話。” “可我總是說謊。”
"Good boys go gladly to school." -"And I get sick if I go to school. From now on I'll be different."
“好孩子很樂意去上學(xué)。” “可我一上學(xué)就難受。從今以后，我會變得不同。”
"Do you promise?" -"I promise. I want to become a good boy and be a comfort to my father.
“你能答應(yīng)嗎？” “我答應(yīng)你。我要變成一個好孩子，成為我爸爸的慰籍。
Where is my poor father now?" -"I do not know."
我可憐的爸爸現(xiàn)在在哪兒呢？” “我不知道。”
"Will I ever be lucky enough to find him and embrace him once more?" -"I think so. Indeed, I am sure of it."
“我能有幸見到他，再次擁抱他嗎？” “我認(rèn)為有。真的，我保證。”
At this answer, Pinocchio's happiness was very great.
皮諾喬聽了這個回答，高興得無以復(fù)加。
He grasped the Fairy's hands and kissed them so hard that it looked as if he had lost his head.
他抓住仙女的手發(fā)瘋似地狂吻起來。
Then lifting his face, he looked at her lovingly and asked: "Tell me, little Mother, it isn't true that you are dead, is it?"
他抬起頭，親熱地看著她問道：“告訴我，小媽媽，你不是真死了吧？”
"It doesn't seem so," answered the Fairy, smiling.
“看來好像不是，”仙女微笑著回答。
"If you only knew how I suffered and how I wept when I read 'Here lies--'"
“你要知道我當(dāng)時多么傷心痛苦，當(dāng)我看見＝＝＝‘這里安眠著……’”
"I know it, and for that I have forgiven you. The depth of your sorrow made me see that you have a kind heart.
“我知道，為此我原諒你了。你悲傷的強(qiáng)烈使我知道，你有一顧善良的心。
There is always hope for boys with hearts such as yours, though they may often be very mischievous.
一個有顆如你般心腸的孩子，即使經(jīng)常有點頑皮，總還是有希望的。
This is the reason why I have come so far to look for you. From now on, I'll be your own little mother."
這就是我到這這么遠(yuǎn)的地方來找你的原因。從現(xiàn)在起，我就是你的小媽媽了。”
"Oh! How lovely!" cried Pinocchio, jumping with joy.
“噢！太好啦！”皮諾喬大叫，高興得跳起來。
"You will obey me always and do as I wish?" -"Gladly, very gladly, more than gladly!"
“你會聽我的話，永遠(yuǎn)照我的話去做嗎？” “愿意，十分愿意，太愿意啦！”
"Beginning tomorrow," said the Fairy, "you'll go to school every day." -Pinocchio's face fell a little.
“從明天開始，”仙女說，“你每天都要去上學(xué)。” 皮諾喬有點兒拉長了臉。
"Then you will choose the trade you like best." -Pinocchio became more serious.
“然后選擇一種你喜歡的手藝或者工作……” 皮諾喬變得更嚴(yán)肅了。
"What are you mumbling to yourself?" asked the Fairy.
“你嘟囔著些什么？”仙女問到。
