Some further developments on the Yucheng International investigations.

A police probe on January 11 into the financial company found that along with its subsidiary peer-to-peer lending platform Ezubo, it had illegally raised some 40 billion yuan from 800,000 people.

Last December’s detainments in the mother company were followed in January by the arrest of nine executives of Ezubo for suspected illegal fund-raising.

Sources close to the investigation said, roughly 800,000 people had invested nearly 40 billion yuan in Ezubo.

They also said more than 1,000 employees of Ezubo and other Yucheng subsidiaries were under suspicion of misconduct that falls into the category of "illegal collection of deposit from the public.”

According to the Criminal Law, this is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Several of Yucheng's executives are also suspected of fraudulent fundraising, and police were still searching for two of them.

Fortunately for them, the charge, which used to be punishable by death until last November, had its maximum sentence amended to life in prison.

The police also froze 15 billion yuan worth of assets owned by Yucheng and its subsidiaries.
