Rui Chenggang, a host of financial news programs on China Central Television, is one of the best-known anchors in China. Famous for leading an online campaign in 2007 to kick Starbucks out of the Forbidden City, the 37-year-old Rui was scheduled to co-host the daily program Economic News on July 11. Instead, the program aired with his co-anchor next to an empty microphone.

A CCTV employee told Caixin that Rui was detained in his office, while sources said that prosecutors also detained two other CCTV employees, including Li Yong, vice director of the network's CCTV2 finance and economics channel. The detentions come after an anti-corruption investigation that ensnared several other CCTV executives, including Guo Zhenxi, the director of CCTV2, who was detained in May.
