In today's podcast, four Shanghai customs officials embroiled in allegations of corruption are detained.

Over the past month, four officials in Shanghai Customs have been detained, according to separate sources interviewed by Caixin. Shanghai Customs has confirmed investigations are being carried out but did not give further detail. All four of the cases are being handled by prosecutors in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Among the officials detained is the former deputy head of Shanghai Customs, Bian Zhuyao, who sources say was found with more than 10 million yuan in cash in his home during an inspection by investigators and is also alleged to have given homes to a higher official as a bribe. The other officials have been detained on allegations which extend from selling smuggled automobiles to stealing confiscated goods.
