The Burned Ears 燒傷的耳朵

A guy burned two ears... so they were asking him at the hospital how it happened.

一個男人的兩只耳朵都被燙傷了...在醫院的時候別人就問他是如何燙到的。

He said, "I was ironing my clothing and the phone rang...so instead of the phone I picked up the iron and burned my ear..."

他說：“我正在熨衣服的時候，電話響了...當時我把熨斗當成電話抓起來接聽了。”

"But how the heck did you burn the other ear?" The doctor asked.

醫生說：“但是你是如何燙到另一只耳朵的呢？”

"How do you think I called you people?"

“因為我想給你打電話呀！”

1.burn

a.可用作及物或不及物動詞：

He burned her letter. 他把她的信燒了。

b.有時用于引申義，表示“有某種強烈的情緒”或“迫切想要”，多用于進行時態：

He was burning with anger. 他怒氣沖天。

c.構成被動語態時，除可用 be burned 外，有時也用 get burned 的形式：

He was thus burned to death by the enemy. 他就這樣被敵人活活地燒死了。

(1) 美國英語通常只用 burned, 只是在用作定語時才用 burnt：

He burned his hand on a hot stove. 他的手在爐子上燙傷了。

(2) 英國英語通常分兩種情況：

用作不及物動詞用時用burned；用作及物動詞時用burnt：

The fire burned brightly. 火燒得很亮。
