When I was waiting in line at the bank , I noticed a woman holding a small child at one of the windows. The boy was eating a roll ,which he thrust at the teller. The teller smiled and shook his head.

1.waiting in line

wait 是個(gè)不及物動(dòng)詞。

不及物動(dòng)詞的意思就是不能直接加賓語(yǔ)。賓語(yǔ)就是這個(gè)動(dòng)詞動(dòng)作的承受者。

就以wait為例。wait的賓語(yǔ)也就是“等”的對(duì)象。因?yàn)閣ait是不及物動(dòng)詞，雖然中文中可以是“等我”，但是英文中就不能直接翻譯為“wait me”，因?yàn)閣ait是不及物動(dòng)詞，后面必須加上與這個(gè)動(dòng)詞搭配的介詞才能加上賓語(yǔ)，而與wait搭配的介詞就是for，要加賓語(yǔ)就要加上for，于是“等我”就應(yīng)該翻譯為“wait for me”而不能是“wait me”。

wait for，固定組合：等，等待某人或某事的發(fā)生. wait for me; wait for dinner。

用法：notice sb .doing sth注意到某人做某事

come to one's notice引起某人注意

bring sth. to sb's notice提醒某人注意某事

give sb. notice向某人發(fā)出解雇、停租通知
