Prepare Yourself 自己做好準備

A story around campus has it that a student once sent a telegram to his parents reading: "Mom - flunked all courses. Kicked out of school. Prepare Pop."
校園里流傳著這樣的故事：一個學生一次給父母拍了一份電報，上面寫著：“媽媽－我所有功課都不及格，被學校開除。讓爸爸做好準備。”
Two days later he received a response: "Pop prepared. Prepare yourself."
兩天以后，他收到了回電：“爸爸已準備好。你自己做好準備吧!”

1.prepare
prepare oneself：為某人自己做好準備。
今天我們主要講prepare用作及物動詞時：
a. prepare sth.表示"準備......"，后接名詞或代詞作賓語。
Our English teacher was preparing the lessons when I came into the office.我進辦公室時，我們的英語老師在備課。
b. prepare sb. sth.表示"給......準備......"，也可轉換為prepare sth. for sb.。
She prepared us a nice breakfast.（= She prepared a nice breakfast for us.） 她給我們準備了可口的早餐。
c. prepare sb. for sth.表示"使某人對某事有所準備"。
She said so because she wanted to prepare her father for the bad news.她這樣說是因為她想使爸爸對那個壞消息有所準備。
d. prepare to do sth.表示"準備做......"。
They were preparing to cross the river when it began to rain.他們正準備過河，突然下雨了。

2.Pop
Pop大寫表示爸爸的意思。當然英語中爸爸有很多種表示方式father，papa，dad，daddy等等都可以。
Michael said softly, "That's not how Pop would have played it."
邁克爾柔和他說：“爸爸不會下這樣的賭注。”
