HOLIDAYS ARE REMEMBERING DAYS
Holidays are happy days for all of us.
When we speak of them, we think of turkey dinners, parades and bands, picnics and presents.
Often on holidays we go to visit our friends and relatives, or they come to spend a few days with us.
But did you ever stop to think that most holidays are "remembering days" as well as happy days?
In our own lives and in the life of our country, important things have happened that we do not want to forget.

Fourth of July reminds us every year of the long and brave struggle our country went through to win its freedom.
On Washington's Birthday we think of that great American, our first President, who so wisely and unselfishly led our people in their fight for liberty.
So with Thanksgiving Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, and Memorial Day—they all are set apart so that we may not forget the good things that have come to us,
and the brave, unselfish men and women who have done so much to make our country and the world a happier place in which to live.
