The Danes woke and knew that the brave stranger was fighting to save their land.

Louder and louder grew the noise, and fiercer grew the struggle.

But at last the giant knew that Beowulf was too strong for him.

He was so terribly wounded that he could fight no longer.

With a great cry, the giant turned and rushed from the hall.
格倫德爾大叫一聲，轉身沖出大殿。
On and on he ran through the forests until he came to the shore of a dark lake.

Into this lake Grendel plunged and was never seen again.
格倫德爾跳進湖里，再也沒人看見過他。
When morning came, the glad news was told everywhere. "Grendel is dead! Grendel is dead!

The noble Beowulf has saved our land!" the Danes cried joyously to one another.
高貴的貝奧武夫拯救了我們！丹麥人高興地彼此呼喊著。
The king and queen, dressed in their most beautiful robes, came forth to meet Beowulf.
國王和王后穿著最漂亮的長袍，出來迎接貝奧武夫。
Stretching out his hands to the brave prince, the king said, "O Beowulf, from this time, I will love you as a son.
國王向勇敢的王子伸出雙手，說道：“貝奧武夫啊，從今以后，我要把你當做我的兒子一樣疼愛你。
And now ask whatever you wish, and I will give it to you."
現(xiàn)在你想要什么，我都滿足你。”
"Not for reward did I come to your land," said Beowulf, "but to save you from this terrible giant."
貝奧武夫說：“我到你們這里來不是為了報酬，而是為了把你們從這個可怕的巨人手中救出來。”
