Paddy Bear did not know, but he found out after trying very, very hard.
小熊培迪不知道，但是經過不懈的努力和嘗試后，他終于找到了答案。
Once upon a time there lived in a dark cave in the mountains a brown bear-cub named Paddy.
很久很久以前，在群山中的一個漆黑的山洞里住著一個棕色的熊寶寶，他的名字叫培迪。
His father and his mother and his uncle and his aunt lived there, too.
他的爸爸、媽媽、叔叔、阿姨也都住在那兒。
All through the winter the older bears just slept in the cave.
整個冬天，大熊們就在山洞里睡覺。
But Paddy liked to tumble and play by himself outside his dark home.
但是培迪喜歡自已在家門外翻滾和玩耍。
One winter morning Paddy slid down the mountain-side until he almost rolled into a log house where some people lived.
一個冬天的早上，培迪順著山坡滑了下來，他差點兒滑進了一個有人居住的小木屋里。
Now Paddy knew very well that he must not let any people see him,
現在培迪知道不能讓任何人看到他，
for his mother had told him that sometimes they caught little bears and put them into a cage or pen.
因為他的媽媽告訴他說，有時候這些人會抓小熊，把他們關進籠子里或木棚中。
So the cub hid in the bushes behind the house and listened.
于是，小熊就藏在了屋后的灌木叢里，聽人們說話。
What he heard made him so excited that he climbed the mountain very fast and then slid down the other side to his dark cave.
他偷聽到的內容讓他很興奮，所以他飛快地爬到了山上，然后滑到了山的另一邊，回到自己漆黑的山洞。
Hurrying inside, the little bear called his father and his mother and his uncle and his aunt.
小熊急忙跑進了山洞，叫自己的爸爸、媽媽和叔叔、阿姨。
When they did not speak, he bumped against them and tickled them and pulled their ears until they woke up.
見他們沒有說話，他就對他們又撞又撓，還揪他們的耳朵，直到他們醒來為止。
