The Thanksgiving Loaves
感恩節(jié)面包
Thanksgiving is a time when people should think of others.
感恩節(jié)是一個為他人著想的節(jié)日。
In this story something very surprising happened to the children who did not remember this.
在這則故事里，在一些不記得這一點(diǎn)的孩子身上，發(fā)生了一些非常奇怪的事情。
Making the Loaves
制作面包
All the boys and girls were very glad when the strange Little Baker came to town one morning, and hung this sign above his brown tent:
一天早上，所有的孩子們都非常高興，因為一個古怪的小面包師來到了小鎮(zhèn)并在他棕色的帳篷外掛了一個牌子，牌子上寫著：

Each child who saw the Little Baker ran to tell another child about him.
每一個看到小面包師的孩子，都跑去告訴其他孩子。
Soon many little feet were going as fast as they could to the brown tent.
不會兒，許多“小腳丫兒”以他們最快的速度來到這個棕色帳篷前。
The Little Baker did not say a word.
小面包師什么也沒說。
He washed his hands at the pump and waved them in the air to dry them.
他在抽水機(jī)邊洗了洗手，然后把手甩干。
Then he made a fire to heat his big oven.
接著，他便生了火，加熱他的大烤箱。
Last of all, he set up a clean, white table before his tent and began to make the loaves.
最后，他在帳篷前搭了一張干凈的白色桌子，開始制作面包。
He made big long loaves and tiny round loaves.
他做了許多大的長面包和小的圓面包。
He made loaves filled with currants.
他在面包中加入了小葡萄干。
He made loaves with strange little marks on them.
他還在面包上做了古怪的標(biāo)記。
He made fat loaves and flat loaves and all kinds of funny-looking loaves.
他還做了粗胖的、扁平的和其他各種有趣形狀的面包。
And as he worked, he sang a merry song.
他在工作的時候，會唱一首歡樂的歌曲。
By and by the children began to whisper to each other.
不一會兒，孩子們就開始竊竊私語起來。
"I shall buy that very biggest loaf," said the biggest boy, "and I shall eat it all alone."
“我要買那個最大的面包，自己一個人吃。”最大的男孩說道。
Oh, said a little girl, "you could never eat such a big loaf alone."
小女孩說：“噢！你不可能一個人吃那么大的面包。”
If I pay for it, it is mine, said the biggest boy. "I need not give away what is my own if I do not wish to."
“我付了錢，它就是我的。”那個最大的男孩說道，“如果我不想把自己的東西送給別人，那就不送。
