While the guests were wondering how these trees could have come to be so tall in a single night, a breeze sprang up and set their boughs astir.
當(dāng)客人們在想這兩棵樹是怎樣在一夜之間長那么高時，一陣微風(fēng)吹來，晃動著大樹枝。
And then there was a deep murmur in the air, as if the two trees were speaking.
接著，空中傳來低沉的低語聲，好像兩棵大樹在說話。
"I am old Philemon!" murmured the oak.
我是老菲利蒙！那棵橡樹喃喃地說道。
"I am old Baucis!" murmured the linden tree.
我是老柏西斯！那棵菩提樹喃喃地說道。
It was plain enough that the good old couple were now to spend a quiet hundred years or so, Philemon as an oak, and Baucis as a linden tree.
很明顯，現(xiàn)在那對善良的老年夫婦要安靜的度過大概上百年了，菲利蒙是一棵橡樹，而柏西斯是一棵菩提樹。
And oh, what a kindly shade did they fling around them!
哦，它們在周圍投下了那么多宜人的樹蔭！
Whenever anyone paused beneath, he heard a pleasant whisper of the leaves: "Welcome, welcome, dear traveler, welcome!"

And someone that knew what would have pleased Baucis and Philemon best, built a seat all around their trunks,

where for long afterwards the Weary, the hungry, and the thirsty used to rest and drink milk from the miraculous pitcher.
后來很長一段時間里，那些疲倦的人、饑餓的人和口渴的人經(jīng)常在那里休息，而且還能喝到來自那個神奇牛奶罐里的牛奶。
And I wish, for all our sakes, that we had the pitcher here now!
