A Surprise for Mother
給媽媽的驚喜
Jim and Nancy and May had gone to bed.
吉姆、南希和梅已經上床睡覺了。
Mother had said good-night, but the children were not asleep.
媽媽已經跟他們道了晚安，但是孩子們卻睡不著。
"Now," said Jim, "let us all think about a surprise for Mother.
“現在”，吉姆說，“我們都想一想怎么給媽媽一個驚喜。
What shall we give her for her birthday?"
我們送媽媽什么生日禮物好呢？”
"We have no money," said Nancy.
“我們沒有什么錢”，南希說。
"Maybe we can make something for her."
“也許我們可以給她制作個什么東西”。
The children thought and thought.
孩子們想啊想。
At last May said, "Oh, I'll tell you."
最后梅說，“噢，我來告訴你們吧”。
And she began to talk very fast.
然后她開始說她的想法，說得非常快。
"Oh, oh!" said the other children.
“噢，噢”！另一個孩子說。
"That is just the thing! Mother will like that best of all."
“就這樣！媽媽一定會喜歡的。”
Before long they were asleep.
沒過多久，他們都睡著了。
All the next day the children were very busy making something.
第二天，孩子們一整天都在忙著做東西。
They did not let their mother see what they were doing.
他們沒有讓媽媽看到他們在做什么。
"It will be fun to surprise Mother," said Nancy.
“給媽媽一個驚喜會很有趣的”，南希說。
"She will never guess what we are doing for her."
“她永遠都不會猜到我們在為她做什么”。
"We must try to get up very early tomorrow morning," said Jim.
“明天早上我們必須盡量很早就起床”，吉姆說。
"I wish tomorrow would come soon," said May.
“我希望明天能快點到來啊”，梅說。
Next morning the children got up early. They were very busy.
第二天早上，孩子們早早地就起床了。他們個個忙個不停。
After a time they called Mother.
一段時間過后，他們喊來了媽媽。
"Happy birthday!" they said.
“生日快樂”！他們說。
"Breakfast is ready, Mother."
“早餐弄好了，媽媽”。
When Mother came down, she went to the breakfast table.
當媽媽下樓的時候，她來到了擺放著早餐的餐桌前。
"My, what a surprise!" she cried.
“天那，太讓人驚訝了”！她喊道。
Then Mother saw three big cards on the table.
在這個時候，媽媽看見桌子上有三張大卡片。
Each card had something on it.
每張卡片上都寫著字。
One of the big cards said, Happy birthday, Mother!
其中一張卡片上寫著，生日快樂，媽媽！
I will water the yard and cut the grass. Jim
我愿意給園子澆水和除草。吉姆
Another card said, Happy birthday, Mother!
另一張卡片上寫著，生日快樂，媽媽！
I will be your errand girl. Nancy
我愿意為您跑跑腿。南希
Then Mother saw this card, Happy birthday, Mother!
接著，媽媽看到了這張卡片，上面寫著，生日快樂，媽媽！
I will make the beds and take care of baby. May
我愿意整理床鋪，照看寶寶。梅
Mother said, "Thank you, children. This is a nice birthday surprise!"
媽媽說，“謝謝你們了，孩子們。這真是個非常好的生日驚喜啊！”
